Eating Out

While vacationing in Utah, we were eating out quite a bit. I was proud of myself for resisting the Biscuits, sausages with more sausage gravy , donuts, bacon and fried hash-browns included in with our hotel each morning....* that was will-power!* Instead,  I enjoyed my pre-made protein oatmeal that I packed up instead...

However, if I am eating right for Breakfast, I am either skiing all day or if I wasn't, I'd hit the gym, and watch my lunch choices....but come dinner...It was time to eat out!

We had a fantastic dinner at a local Seafood Restaurant. The kids ordered this onion ring appetizer to share. OH MY GOSH! Yes, of course I tried one. LOOK at them....amazing.... But, that was it. One was enough...

Instead of depriving ourselves, we ordered fresh choices, like the following....everything was fresh, full of flavour and tasty, but here are two options for an appetizer without sabotaging your hard work. Then I followed my main dish with the most amazing King Crab. A great meal option, as it tastes SO Good!  but you have to eat it slowly, fighting for your meat!  Plus I you can control the amount of butter or omit it all together.  A great tip I was given?  Dip your crab and lobster in Rice Wine Vinegar.  ( my Fish man told me this- his wife is Asian and they do it all the time) sounds awful, I know, but I tried it once. NOT bad at ALL! Very good actually.

Freshly shipped  Oysters- Heck! We are in UTAH!

and mussels, but I was easy on the butter- they were nice enough to put it on the side...

Adega- #1 Restaurant in Toronto - Tripadvisor

We are off to the city Saturday night, so we have to dine well.  We have never been to this restaurant, but it sounds intriguing...we have reservations made!

Adega Restaurant- Toronto

A Portuguese Restaurant- with meals that are predominately influenced by the flavours of Portugal and Spain.

aka: Lots of fresh seafood and fish!

Should be fun. I will write my little review when we get back.

Finally! " Four"

I happened to come across this Restaurant...don't ask me how, as I'm not sure, but I am IMPRESSED!

It is called " Four" and it's in Toronto.  Every dish is under 650 calories. Yet it is fine dining, great atmosphere...no subway sandwiches! haha!

This place will be on my list to visit, the next time we are in Toronto! The menu looks fantastic!

Ok, all you FOODIES! My trip to Toronto..

So the Quebecois tasting people called me and guess what?  They were completely booked up until the end of August.

blah.

Oh well, we'll see what happens, as that is the story of my life. Not in a sad way, as seriously...Alan ( my husband) and I tend to fall into " great" opportunities and we are always up for a fun adventure and never turn any down.

So we arrived at the Intercontinental. Beautiful Hotel, right next to the Four Seasons, in the HOLT Renfrew, million dollar mile of exquisite shopping, if you are a multi-millionaire. Sorry, plain ol' millionaire doesn't quite cut it anymore.

Needless to say, I didn't buy much, but got to " window shop" and pretend! lol

Alan wanted to take me to this steak house that he and the boys went to a few week-ends back. I saw the bill on the credit card, and thought.." no thanks!" a place where the "boys" go and  costs a ton!? ugh. no.

But after  a bit of thought, I thought, what the heck! I don't HAVE to get the $75 steak on the menu.  ( which, by the way, is the JUST the steak, you have to pay for your selection of sides as well! LOL)

So off we go!

This is their website.
Harbour 60- Toronto

We walk in and thank goodness I dressed up a bit.  The place was fit for a King. Not Queen, but KING.  A high end business men's ( on an endless business expense account) type of place. $4000 bottle of  wine anyone? OH! and stick with the $75 steak. The Kobe Steak is in the hundreds!

CRAZY.

I closed my menu and told Alan this was nuts...no thanks! I don't really NEED steak.

He proceeded to take my menu away from me and ordered for me..

1 dirty martini
the shrimp cocktail the size of LOBSTERS!
The $75 steak. ( ugh! the size of a roast!)
Lobster and Brie mashed potatoes- Oh yes! that was all I really needed!
Green beans to say we had a vegetable.

oh! and a bottle of wine. I can't quite remember what he ordered. Terrible and shame on me, I know!

Well it was great!  The Shrimp was HUGE. Had to take a picture. Ignore my ugly nails! I am a gardener now. The pretty ones had to go.

But the BEST part about this place?

The ladies bathroom!  ( you all know I am a bathroom girl!  Well...the toilet seats were heated, and look at the "options!" I had to try them all out! HA!)

Night #2, we decided we better keep it simple. So I get a text from Alan. A medical company that he is interested in buying surgical mesh for wants to take us to Canoe for dinner.

Ok, don't even get me started about CANOE! my all time, lifetime, FAVOURITE high end restaurant. I can't say enough about this place. Just GO! at least once in your lifetime.  This was our 4th time.  I hope we have plenty more!
Canoe- Toronto

We had our own private dining room.

54th floor Toronto Dominion Building
your view while the sunsets, yachts pass by and private jets land on the Island....and you are served 5 star out of this world food, along with service!

the only drawback? I had to watch the slide show of surgeries! ack!

Dinner and wine was great- as usual! Never an issue at Canoe.

Earlier that night, I was reading a magazine about a place called "Ki" It had great reviews for Japanese cuisine and a fun place to go for a drink on the town.  So when the guys I was with said we should head on over there- across the street..I couldn't turn down the opportunity.

We walk in- WOW! great place! Quite busy, but not packed, fun place for a drink. So champagne it was!

so there we were mingling in the crowd and I asked..." Is that guy over there another Surgeon with us tonight?"

Their response- "no, that is BEN JOHNSON!"

what!?

So he was just a couple feet away, with his friend..not much happening, so I introduced myself and asked him. Yup! that was him!  I told him how he has always been a hero to me, and had to get a picture!

We talked fashion, and chatted for awhile. Watched the SENS win in overtime. It was ALL good!

FUN TIMES!

Ski Trip! Lunch? Wine?

share a bottle of wine, cheese, and anitpasto!? with a view of blue bird skies and mountains to play in?

Does it get any better than this?

The best part, we are skiing all day at 10,000 feet. Beathting is difficult  and forces your body to work harder. So I'm hoping this all worked out for calories input to output in the end!? HA!HA!

What to order at Fast Food Places- you're starving!

Ok, as I have mentioned earlier...I always pack my little nifty lunch purse.  I even bought a new one. You like?

oh! but these are pretty cute too!

BUT, if you find yourself in a situation where you have to eat fast food. I have compiled  a list of the better options for you.  It is amazing how something that sounds HEALTHY can be equivelent to 3 big macs! no joke! all salads are not equal. Then there are a few soups or chili's and you think..oh gosh no! That can't be good, but they are. So here is what I have come up with so far.

the good news is, you can now go on-line and find the Nutrtional value to most fast food chains!  Which is nice, so we can make an educated healthy decision.

Swiss Chalet:
usually my first choice as I can get a baked potato, skinless chicken breast, and steamed veggies.

Harvey's:

Grilled chicken sandwich, or the veggie burger. Great choices. Load up your burger with all the healthy toppings.

Wendy's
Not alot of healthy options: did you know the mandarin salad is over 1100 calories?  yikes
Stick to the chili, and the grilled chicken sandwich. Even the baked potatoes are loaded with fatty toppings.

Tim Horton's
The soups are pretty good. Even the cream of mushroom!  not high in fat at all.  Just skip the donuts.  The wraps are all pretty healthy as well.

Taco Bell
They have a new healthy menu! YAY to Taco Bell!
Beef Fresco soft taco
Chicken Burrito Supreme Fresco
Steak Soft Taco Fesco...Fresco seems to be a theme here!?

Boston Pizza
Not too many options there. But I do like their salad with shrimp or chicken skewers. Problem is, I am starving again within the hour.

more to come! I am working on it!
